3-Up On Juan Results

3-Up On Juan was a success in 2015.

Traditionally used as a warm up to the Vic Open each year, only 2 players were able to make the trip down in 2015. Both Sally and Simon were able to use Up On Juan as a good build up to the event.

There was a turnout of 21 players at Upjohn Park in Rydalmere for 3-Up. Interstate attendees Tim Marchbank, Monica Mills and Dan Wynne all made the trip for what turned out to be an excellent day.

The initial forecast was looking like a wet and sorry day, however the rain held off and plenty of sunshine was around for most of the play. (the rain eventually arrived in cyclonic proportions the following day/week!).

Jonathan Jonas came in from the first round with the hot score of 56, closely followed by Luke Williams, Tunjdi Akpo-sani and the QLD’er Tim Marchbank.

In the advanced division Gavin Palmer had a decent lead over Simon Milliken and the rest of the field, in intermediate Matt Lamy had a 4 stroke lead going in the afternoons round.

Mens Novice had 2 competitors and Grant Dwyer had a 5 stroke lead over Tobias Hayes.

Sally Hill, Monica Mills and Cameron Upton all held their divisions solo.

The afternoon turned out to be perfect for some DG with only mild wind and great conditions otherwise.

For mens open JJ came in with another solid score of 57 and the rest of the top card couldn’t quite reel him in, for a win by 2 strokes.

In advanced Gavin won quite comfortably and in Intermediate Matt Lamy held on for his maiden win.

In Mens Novice it got really tight with Tobias having a cracker of a 2nd round, but falling just 1 stroke behind eventual winner Grant Dwyer, well played boys!

The custom dyed discs were a hit and made everyone else a bit envious. There’s always next year!

Sydney Disc Golf Club will continue to work with council to try and put permanent baskets in the park as Upjohn proved what a good course it could be.

Congrats to all the winners, hopefully we’ll see you out at Upjohn in 2016.
